United Blood, Regent holding 24-hour blood drive

by Leslie Turk

United Blood Services and Regent Broadcasting’s seven radio stations are teaming up again for a 24-hour blood drive to help the more than 60 south Louisiana hospitals that rely on UBS. The event runs from 7 a.m. Wednesday, July 8, to 7 a.m. Thursday at UBS headquarters, 1503 Bertrand Drive.

More than 4,800 pints of blood are transfused locally each month, and during the summer, blood donations dip to dangerous lows as families become involved with vacations, sports, and tending to children out of school.

Throughout the 24 hours, all participants will automatically be registered to win hourly giveaways and grand prizes. Grand prizes awarded at the end of the event include a $1,500 de Madera shopping spree; $1,000 travel voucher from Associated Travel; iPod 8g package, donated by Sound & Communication Systems; a pair of Journey tickets; and a pair of Green Day tickets.

Visit UBS between 8 p.m.- 11 p.m. and automatically be registered to win a Taylor Swift concert package (a pair of tickets, dinner for two and night stay at Hilton Garden Inn) or come in the “Wii” hours of the night between 12 a.m.-2 a.m. for a chance to win a Wii console system.

Stay tuned to Regent stations 99.9 KTDY, 96.5 Planet Radio, 97.3 The Dawg, 105.1 KPEL, 960 The Gator, Hot 107.9, and 1420 am ESPN Sports radio for additional details. Food will be served for breakfast, lunch, dinner and a midnight snack. In addition, every donor will receive a commemorative T-shirt, a pint of Blue Bell ice cream and one free Sicily’s Buffet while supplies last.
