Patricia Cravins, Kelly J. Scott, Lincoln L. Savoie, Sam Dore. All are among the first candidates (in Lafayette City-Parish Councilman Dore’s case, among the first officials) to be charged by the Louisiana Board of Ethics under a new law requiring personal financial disclosures. The Advocate reported that 11 candidates in special spring elections failed to file the disclosure reports within 10 days of signing up to run and now face financial penalties.
“These are the first ones,” ethics deputy general counsel Kathleen Allen said. Among them are three candidates who ran for a Louisiana Senate District 24 seat — Patricia Cravins and Kelly J. Scott, both of Opelousas, and Lincoln L. Savoie, of Sunset. Then-state Rep. Elbert Guillory, D-Opelousas, won the seat vacated by state Sen. Donald Cravins Jr., D-Opelousas, who took a job in Washington, D.C. Also facing failure to file charges is Sam Dore, of Lafayette, the winner of a parish council position. Dore won a May run-off election against Max Jordan.
