ESPN: Saints/Pats audience falls short of record

(UPDATE: The finally Nielsen tally is in, and Monday's Saints-Pats game fell just short of ESPN's Oct. 5 "Monday Night Football" game between the Minnesota Vikings and Green Bay Packers.)

I know where everyone I know was Monday night - doing exactly what much of the country was doing.

"America's TV watchers have joined the Who Dat Nation," The Times-Picayune reported
Tuesday morning.

Preliminary ratings data from ESPN indicates the New Orleans Saints' bravura beat-down of the New England Patriots on "Monday Night Football" was witnessed by what might turn out to be the largest audience in cable-TV history. Final ratings won't be available until Wednesday morning, but preliminary Nielsen overnight numbers suggest that the Saints' 38-17 triumph may surpass the national audience for ESPN's Oct. 5 "Monday Night Football" game between the Minnesota Vikings and Green Bay Packers. At 21.8 million viewers, many of whom tuned in to watch Brett Favre play his former team, it was the biggest cable audience ever.
