Louisiana is number one where it counts - happiness

by Mary Tutwiler

Louisianians always knew we were happy. It’s just that nobody would believe us. “You’re riddled with crime, poverty, obesity, corruption, hurricanes and mosquitoes,” scolded those know-it-all New Yorkers. “You can’t be happy.”

It took a study, conducted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and some number crunching by a pair of economists to deduce that the home of Mardi Gras, oyster poboys and Dixie beer is the happiest place in the U.S.

Other states ranked in the high quality of life quotient are Hawaii, Florida, Tennessee and Arizona. At the bottom of the list — New York.

The validation of our sunny attitude is published today in the journal Science.
