OUR LOSS IS THEIR GAIN

What is the matter with our state government? Don't they understand Louisiana homeowners are suffering terribly ("Road Rage," June 6)? The U.S. Congress is very unlikely to fund the Road Home shortfall unless our state contributes some of its budget surplus to the RHP. Most of the state budget surplus exists because hurricanes Katrina and Rita caused so much damage to south Louisiana property owners.

Our state government should not hold damaged homeowners hostage to politics. So far, our state has failed its homeowners miserably, and our families have waited too long for help. Louisiana families who have lost their homes, furniture, family, neighbors, community institutions, careers, insurance, family heirlooms, art, faith, hope and confidence are still suffering inhumane delays. The need is urgent.
