Judge Sullivan's vacant seat filled

David Chatelain has been appointed judge pro tempore on the Third Circuit Court of Appeal to fill the vacancy created by the death of Judge Mike Sullivan. Chatelain was appointed by order of the Louisiana Supreme Court, Justice Jeannette Theriot Knoll announced yesterday.

Chatelain is serving from Jan. 4 to July 4 of this year, or until the vacancy is filled, whichever occurs sooner.

Chatelain received his B.A. from the University of Detroit in 1971 and his J.D. degree from Loyola Law School in 1975. He served as assistant in-house counsel for the Bank of New Orleans from 1975-1976 and entered into private law practice from 1976-1981. For two years he was managing attorney for Central Louisiana Legal Services Inc. in Marksville and served as a research attorney for Judge Knoll on the Louisiana Third Circuit Court of Appeal from 1983-1996. Since 1997 he has been serving as senior research attorney to Justice Knoll on the Louisiana Supreme Court.

Chatelain also has a master’s degree in pastoral ministry from Loyola University School of Law.
