Domengeaux won't seek appellate seat

by Leslie Turk

Local attorney Jimmy Domengeaux, who was eyeing the Third Circuit Court of Appeal seat, has decided not to run.

In the Feb. 17 issue of The Independent Weekly, Peep Goat, the INDsider's insider, reported that local attorney Jimmy Domengeaux was eyeing the Third Circuit Court of Appeal seat vacated by the death of Judge Mike Sullivan. In a March 1 letter to the paper, however, Domengeaux says he has decided against running due to the demands of his law practice. He is a partner in the downtown firm Domengeaux, Wright, Roy and Edwards.

"I am thankful and humbled by the amount of support I received from the public urging my candidacy," he writes. "I will not be a candidate for this prestigious judicial position because of the present case load in my law practice."

Lafayette City Judge Francie Bouillion, District Judge Phyllis Keaty and attorney Buzz Durio have all said they plan to run. Qualifying is July 7-9; the special election is Oct. 2.
