Tis springtime again almostand that can only mean a few things: gallant poets riding white horses and spouting noble poems of undying love, a profound proliferation of allergies, Lent, an end to this tiresome cold weather, and a ton of festival events. Lafayette has no shortage of series festivals. Downtown Alive! Bach Lunch, and Rhythms on the River all kick off their Spring 2010 seasons in March (DTA, Bach Lunch) and April (Rhythms on the River). A community tradition for 26 years and a popular staple in Acadiana's cultural calendar, the Downtown Alive! 2010 series kicks off March 12. Nobody does it like DTA to bring great entertainment in the form of free, family-friendly, smoke free, outdoor concerts to downtown Lafayette.

Highlights of the Spring DTA season include T.K. Hulin, Pine Leaf Boys, bluesman John Mooney and Trueman Posse. Bach Lunch kicked off their season on March 5. On March 12 they have Les Freres Michot for the second show of the series. Once again, you can make the downtown lunch scene outside, sitting on a patch of grass, with your cheap shades on, and your hog and old lady by your side. Because you're living in a movie, baby - it's fabulous! People love you and you can eat some lunch out of a bag on the grass. For 22 years now, the lunch hour series has provided free live music and affordable lunches. The concerts are held in downtown Lafayette at Parc Sans Souci at the corner of Polk, Congress and Vermilion streets. Proceeds go to the support of the Lafayette Science Museum. Highlights include BonSoir Catin, The Howdies, and The Canes. Last but not least Rhythms on the River kicks it off on April 1 with Buckwheat Zydeco. Cedric Watson opens the show. If you live on the south side, there's no better place to catch live music on that end of town on a Thursday evening.

KING OF SURF: DICK DALE
The surf magician of the electric wave comes to town, riding a hillbilly sound stick of supernatural wonder. The surf guitar legend is still doing it, banging out wiped out, reverb-drenched twang for the grommets and the geriatrics alike. Go see him at the Blue Moon on March 16.

SOUTH BY SPHERE
Berry at Artmosphere has cool stuff brewing, namely catching the overrun of bands traveling to and from SXSW in Austin. On March 14 & 15 Artmosphere hosts South by Sphere, two bills for south-by bands rocking in the free world. On Sunday, March 14, Grandchildren (from Philadelphia), Rebecca Loebe, Robby Hecht, Raina Rose, and AJ Roach rock it. On March 15, The Extraordinaires, Dr Manhattan, and Bald Eagle Refugees do it.

DRIVE-BY
Former Drive-by Trucker Jason Isbell comes through town to play Grant Street on March 12 with Drew Landry & The Dirty Cajuns opening the show. If you like roots rock and good songwriting, go check them out.

ETC
Piano wunderkind Jason Savoy and guitar gunslinger Mike Binet of the Zombie Bop are teaming up to kick some old school Jerry Lee Lewis jams in what could be termed a faithful tribute at The Filling Station on March 12 after DTA. Go see themNew Orleans noodler and pro-level schadoodler guitarist Anders Osborne comes to town for the first time in a long time to play Blue Moon on March 12 Riffs of Griff, Blue Squirrel, and the Return of Razzmania bust it out HARD at Bisbanos on March 13. This gang of bad boys know how to have a good time in their minds. Dig the Return of Razzmania, a one-man band of unparallel strength and psychic courage UL Lafayette Percussion Ensemble Presents the "Big Bang" 2010 at 7:30 p.m. in the Ducrest-Gilfry Auditorium in Angelle Hall on March 12.
