Francophone group launches census Web site, on-line petition

by Walter Pierce

The World Studies Institute of Louisiana is encouraging the state's Cajun and Creole populations to note their ethnic heritage on census forms currently being distributed. The World Studies Institute of Louisiana, a non-profit Francophone-promotion group which has an office in old City Hall at Jefferson and Lee downtown, has launched a Web site, LatinLouisiana.com, and on-line petition to encourage Louisiana's Cajun and Creole populations to note their ethnic heritage on census forms currently being distributed. According WSI Director Chrisophe Landry, if Cajuns and Creoles note their heritage in large numbers it could mean hundreds of millions of extra funding for Louisiana for French immersion programs, museums and other cultural offerings. America's Hispanic population has benefited greatly through the same process.
