Lafayette independent lawmaker Joel Robideaux today became Louisiana's first speaker pro tempore who is not affiliated with a party.

Lafayette independent lawmaker Joel Robideaux today became Louisiana's first speaker pro tempore who is not affiliated with a party. A source at the Capitol tells the INDsider Robideaux was elected 53-48 in a historic voice vote over Noble Ellington, a Democrat from Winnsboro.

The only four Acadiana representatives who did not vote for Robideaux were Franklin Democrat Sam Jones, Eunice Democrat Mickey Guillory, Crowley Democrat Jack Montoucet and Ville Platte Democrat Bernard LeBas.
