SPEAK FEST
SPEAK FEST returns. The Society for Peace, Environment, Action & Knowledge at UL is one of those great concentrations of people that genuinely cares and actively tries to make this sometimes God-forsaken world a better place. SPEAK promotes a wide array of concerns involved in making human life more sustainable in our local region. In order to further that mission, it meets throughout the fall and spring in the Forum Room of the UL Student Union. SPEAK holds its annual fest at both Artmosphere and Blue Moon on April 18 starting at 2 p.m. Bands for the event include The Botanist, Dude vs. Bruh, Blue Eclipse, Fights, Allison Bohl, Bird City, Seven Horse Tango and some more special secret guests. In addition, there will be dancers and earthlove moving and shaking all day. Be there, people.

EARTH DAY
Bayou Vermilion District throws an Earth Day Celebration April 18. It's an all-day event for people ages 2 months to 102 years old. Attendees can enjoy free canoeing in the Petite Bayou and free cooking demos, as well as lots of information, activities and demonstrations about the earth. You can also peep out the visual and inspirational keynote slide show presented by Pack & Paddle. In addition to musicians scattered throughout the village, playing on porches, the Lost Bayou Ramblers will be preaching their Cajun earth vibes in the Performance Center from 1 - 3 p.m. Boat tours on the Bayou Vermilion will be available at a minimal cost. Bust it.
BOUCHERIE WORKSHOP
Toby Rodriguez, Linzay Young, Tony Davoren and Joel Savoy are throwing a Boucherie Workshop at Chicot State Park at the Folk Roots Pavilion. "We're just trying to get some people to come out there and observe and participate in the old tradition that yields such popular Cajun delicacies as boudin, gratons, hog-head cheese, backbone stew, barbecue, and freissures," says Young. Should be rad. "We'll be starting bright and early, actually, before it gets light," Young adds. "But people are welcome to come around from 6 a.m." They'll be located at the opposite end of the boulevard parking lot from where the dances are held. Also The Red Stick Ramblers will be closing out the dance stage on Saturday night after the boucherie is over. Go check them dudes out at Chicot State Park on April 17.

Tab Benoit is one of Louisiana's straight world blues-dude, gun-slingers. His electric sound has been known to cross eyes and smooth down the scowls of envious blues dudes the world over, for their misdeeds do not equal his skills as a slow hand shred master. Tab Benoit hits Blue Moon on April 16.
HOPEFEST GOES OFF
Catholic school girls rule, so does hope. What's better than hope? A festival dedicated to hope with a bunch of Catholic girls hanging out. Yeah! The Catholic girls and boys at St. Thomas More High School get together to throw a Hope Fest, a benefit for the Autism Society of Acadiana and the St. Thomas More Catholic High School Options Program. Hope Fest goes down at St. Thomas More April 17.
HORACE
The Cajun mystery man Horace Trahan & the Ossun Express bring their unique take on Louisiana roots music to Whiskey River Landing in Henderson April 18 from 4-8 p.m.
MOONEY GOES DTA
Slide guitar blue monster man John Mooney returns to Lafayette to play Downtown Alive! in Parc International. His Son House-tutored wankology has a deep history in the Delta roots and dusty backroads of the sacred chalice of mud. John Mooney & Bluesiana play DTA! April 16.
THE BROUSSARD
The magically soul-inflected voice-pipes of Marc Broussard will be in full effect April 20. Broussard returns to the Blue Moon to rock a special gig and show the peeps what he is all about, namely sly groove, soul crunch, R&B signifying and killer tunes. Back biters and syndicators need not apply. Do it.
SONG CONTEST
Valcour Records and Tipitina's Music Office Co-Op are joining forces to present a songwriting and production contest during April. Artists are allowed only three hours to record a song as an entry. The artist submitting the winning track will be awarded $200, an Artist of the Month feature on the Valcour Records Web site, and a full year membership at the Tipitina's Co-Op.
