Almost everyone in Lafayette has had a Judice Inn burger at least once, and for many of us a trip to the quaint hamburger stand is a weekly event. Nearly every Saturday afternoon Party Girl goes there to get her favorite - a cheeseburger with grilled onions and extra "sauce." But tantalizing our palates for the last 63 years isn't all that the Judice family is known for. It has also contributed an abundance of time and money to the community, especially to UL Lafayette. At UL's annual Spring Gala, the family got the recognition it deserves by being honored by the fundraising event. Held at the beautiful Alumni Center, the gala was a blowout success with lots of money raised for UL and for the upkeep of the center. Robert Harris did an amazing job as auctioneer for the live auction, where attendees fought over the likes of pearl necklaces and Saints tickets in a suite on the 50-yard line.
The theme was "Retro Groove" as Lafayette Education Foundation presented ReProm 2010 at River Oaks to raise funds in support of excellence in education in Lafayette Parish schools. ReProm allows guests the opportunity to relive or re-create their high school prom while raising funds to help students achieve academic goals. While some guests sported afros and go-go boots, others opted for the classic tux or modern gown. ReProm's court has a much more important purpose than the traditional high school crowning: It's a group of community-minded residents diverse in age, occupation and interests. The community participated by donating dollars for the LEF ReProm 2010 king and queen. Each dollar equaled one vote, and this year the winners were King Kim Veillon and Queen Ruth Moncus. The court raised more than $84,000 in voting proceeds.
