AOC and Downtown Alive! partner with Lafayette's hottest party band to create a collaborative, multimedia event.

Anyone who has ever attended a Givers show can understand the unique and magical sensation of being a part of the band's enthused and spirited crowd. The joy you feel as part of the audience, sharing in Givers' festive, youthful energy, is an invigorating experience unlike any other. But now, thanks to Acadiana Open Channel, the spirit of their live performances can be shared with the public.

Givers will be playing Downtown Alive! May 28, and AOC, with the help of the audience, is doing its part to make it a night we will never forget by putting media in the hands of the public. In partnership with Givers and Downtown Alive!, AOC will hand out 20 video cameras for members of the audience to record every aspect of their Givers experience. "We'll give video cameras to our members who sign up in advance, then that night, beginning at 5:45 our entire stockpile of video cameras will be handed out to community members who present their drivers' licenses. All we ask is that they try to express some aspect of the event from their own perspective," says AOC Director Ed Bowie. "Not knowing what to expect is part of the fun we'll see."

The footage shot will later be composed into a documentary, edited in collaboration with the participants - a giant mashup, illustrating the essence of attending a Givers show from an audience member's perspective. It will capture the unique and sensational moments of being a part of the Lafayette fan base.

The idea for the project isn't new: The Beastie Boys' 2006 film, Awesome, I shot that! blazed the trail. But Givers are happy to beat the path. "We're totally stoked to be part of something this cool," says Tiffany Lamson, vocalist for Givers. "Maybe we'll create some great collaborative energy and be part of an art masterpiece."

AOC wants to build a multimedia experience, Givers want to share some great music, and DTA! wants you to come downtown. Be a part of the magic May 28 at 6 p.m. in Parc Sans Souci for a Downtown Alive! that will be forever remembered. Signing up in advance at [email protected] is highly encouraged.
