ArtWalk hits downtown Lafayette on Saturday, July 10.
Downtown Lafayette comes alive for this Saturday's ArtWalk as galleries, restaurants and shops offer live music, food, drink, art, and exceptionally peppy atmosphere for the energetically inclined. On July 10, visit the downtown district for ArtWalk with more than a dozen galleries and museums featuring the best in local and regional artwork and fine crafts. Businesses in the district showing artwork include Artmosphere, Chase Tower, Frederick's Hair Studio and Recycled Cycles of Acadiana among many others. And dig this - works sold in the Downtown Lafayette Cultural District are free from state sales tax. Nice! No "art taxation" without representation, baby. Or better yet, how about a bumper sticker that says, "TAX THIS" next to a picture of Van Gogh's ear and some oil based paints?

Southern Open 2010
The Southern Open is a competitive juried exhibition featuring artists from the 5 southern states of Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida. Taking place in the Main Gallery at the AcA, Southern Open 2010 includes all types of original media: painting, drawing, sculpture, photography and video/DVD provided by visual artists over the age of 18. Juror for this year's Southern Open is Bill Arning.

Maria Lovullo (1961 - 2009)
This gallery exhibit will highlight the life and work of Maria Lovullo (1961 - 2009). An art teacher, local fixture in Acadiana and tremendously talented and prolific artist, this exhibition of past and recent work includes a rich array of paintings, drawings, prints, sculpture and footage from her performance pieces
Having worked as a visual arts curator, gallery director and film set decorator, as well as an exhibiting artist, LoVullo brought with her a rich background when she moved to Louisiana in 1990. While in Lafayette, Ms. LoVullo was a director at the Lafayette Art Gallery, a board member of the Artist Alliance, and continued to exhibit her work.

Pat has been a professional craftsman for over 30 years. He began working in metal, small sculpture and jewelry,then moved to cast sculpture on a larger scale and blacksmithing before concentrating on painted steel sculpture. Juneau has used every type and alloy of metal such as steel, titanium, copper, bronze, niobium, platinum, gold, silver, zinc, lead, etc. The most important thing about art to Juneau is to invent, do things no one else has done, go down a path no one else has gone down.

Visit Adrian Fulton for Paintings, Portraits or Caricature. His Art captures timeless emotion and expression. Adrian produces five minute caricatures and10 minute portraits at festivals, parties and events. He is known for his bold use of color and his carefree depiction of movement in all of his paintings. Fulton says he describes his art as abstract reality. "It is abstract but not so abstract that familiar images cannot be derived from it," said Fulton. "I will grab anything within my reach and throw it on the canvas during electrical storms. It is a very passionate process. My materials range from charcoal to oil paint and everything in between. Nothing is out of bounds."

The Spirit of Haiti
This exciting exhibition of the steel drum art was created by Carlo Brutus whose small work shed was not destroyed in the earthquake. Now working on his own, this fair trade art is still being created in Haiti and shipped to the U.S. Carlo's work includes the "Tree of Life", "Fish", "Happy Sun/Moon" and "Peasant Bands." All of this work is original and made out of recycled steel drums. All work can be hung in or outside.
