Study: Spill has affected perceptions

Analysis of a recent poll conducted by the state Office of Tourism finds that the BP Deepwater Horizon explosion and spill have had a negative impact on potential travellers' perceptions of Louisiana.

Analysis of a recent poll conducted by the state Office of Tourism finds that the BP Deepwater Horizon explosion and spill have had a negative impact on potential travellers' perceptions of Louisiana.

The targeted, Internet-based survey finds, among other things, that respondents have followed the spill closely, that it has made them concerned about the environmental integrity of Louisiana as a potential vacation destination, including the quality and safety of seafood, and that they are less likely today than prior to spill to plan a trip to the Bayou State.

Just more than 900 regional respondents completed the survey. Each was screened to ensure they met certain key demographics including being over 25 years old, having an annual household income over $50,000, takes at least one trip per year that includes a paid, overnight stay and lives in one of six target markets - Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, Austin and Hattiesburg/Laurel, Miss.
