The 2010 list of Acadiana's Top 50 Privately Held Companies was published in our sister publication ABiz last week, the second year for this exhaustive research project. Despite the national economic downturn, the report reflects a robust year for the region's top shops as well as a shuffle among the leaders on the list. The Top 50, along with locally based publicly traded companies, will be honored at a luncheon on Thursday, Aug. 26, at The Cajundome Convention Center at 11:45 a.m. Keynote speaker will be Charlie Cook, often-quoted political analyst and author of "The Cook Political Report," who is known and respected as one of the most independent, non-partisan and accurate handicappers of elections in the U.S. Cook is also a Louisiana native whose early career led him to Washington as an aide to former Sen. J. Bennett Johnston. "Given the broad interest in the upcoming mid-term elections, we are delighted that Charlie's busy schedule will allow him to join us for the Top 50 luncheon," says ABiz publisher Cherry Fisher May. "His specific insight into the issues facing Louisianians will make his presentation even more relevant."
