From the "this is absolutely no surprise at all" file: Louisiana is the second-most obese state in the union - 33 percent of us are hauling too much hay in the wagon.

From the "this is absolutely no surprise at all" file: Louisiana is the second-most obese state in the union - 33 percent of us are hauling too much hay in the wagon, according to a new report from the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention, and our state spends nearly $3 billion annually on obesity-related medical costs. From the same file: Mississippi ranks number one - more than 34 percent of Mississippians are obese although, because there are roughly 1.5 million fewer residents in Mississippi, they shoulder a lighter financial burden.

The top five, in descending order, are rounded out by Tennessee, Oklahoma and Kentucky. The top five skinny states are Colorado, District of Columbia, Connecticut, Massachusetts and Hawaii, which is why we hate Colorado, District of Columbia, Connecticut, Massachusetts and Hawaii.
