Grant Street Dancehall presents a rare performance by New Orleans jam band supergroup Good Enough for Good Times tonight. Grant Street Dancehall presents a rare performance by New Orleans jam band supergroup Good Enough for Good Times tonight. The band, formed in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, consists of bassist Robert Mercurio and guitarist Jeff Raines of Galactic, along with organist Joe Ashlar of Bonerama and drummer Simon Lott of WATIV and the Charlie Hunter Trio. Here's how the band describes their origins:
"We started up as a band due to the lack of musicians in New Orleans following Hurricane Katrina. A lot of the club owners were calling around asking musicians to put something together to fill their empty stages. We came together to play for them (or for us), the New Orleans' folks who came home after the storm and needed to hear some good music to get their minds off off the crazy SH*T that was going on around them. We had such a great time playing together that we just continued to do it and the next thing you know, we have our myspace page. wouldn't you know?"
Good Enough for Good Times plays Grant Street Friday, Aug. 20. Doors open at 9 p.m. and the show begins at 10.
