In an effort to help voters make an informed decision in the fast approaching October 2 election, the League of Women Voters of Lafayette is encouraging everyone to read the responses from all 13 school board candidates to a questionnaire covering some of the most pressing issues facing Lafayette schools. The responses, as well as biographical information on all the candidates, can be viewed at the organization's website at www.lwvlafayette.org.

Six of the nine school board districts have contestants for the four-year term: Districts 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8.  Incumbents Mark Babineaux (District 1), Shelton Cobb (District 3), and RaeTrahan (District 9) are unopposed. For the questionnaire, the candidates give their thoughts on the school facilities master plan, reduction in state funding, cuts to salary supplements for nationally certified positions, improving low performing schools and increasing readiness for school, the new state's teacher evaluation system, and continued City-Parish Council and community discussion with the School Board.
