This week may be your only chance to see candidates for the Lafayette Parish School Board discuss the issues before the Oct. 2 election. Begining Tuesday, Sept. 7, the Lafayette Parish Public Education Stakeholders Council is hosting forums for all the contested districts. Susannah Malbreaux, the organization's vice chair, says the United Way of Acadiana generated questions for the debates based on feedback from four community organizations, all of which are represented on LaPESC: Citizens Action Council, 100 Black Men of Greater Lafayette, State of Greater Black Lafayette and Concerned Citizens for Good Government. Audience members will also be allowed to submit questions. The forums will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 at the following times and locations:
Tuesday, Sept. 7: District 2 candidates Greg Davis and Tommy Angelle and District 4 candidates Tehmi Chassion and Gwen Harris, at the Clifton Chenier Center, 220 W. Willow St. Moderator: Brian Tolley, executive editor of The Daily Advertiser.
Wednesday, Sept. 8: District 5 candidates Junius Andres, Kermit Bouillion and Dean Landry and District 8 incumbent Hunter Beasley and challenger Arlecia Hill, at the Southside Regional Library, 6101 Johnston St. Moderator: Shawn Wilson.
Thursday, Sept. 9: District 6 incumbent Greg Awbrey and challenger Dudley LaBauve III and District 7 incumbent Mark Cockerham and challenger Thomas Brown, at South Louisiana Community College, 320 Devalcourt St. Moderator: Cherry Fisher May, co-publisher of The Independent.
