Also at our event, Senate Candidate Mike Spears, will be making a huge announcement in his bid to capture a Senate seat."
Spears' huge announcement? Challenging incumbent U.S. Sen. David Vitter to a three-round mixed martial arts cage match fight at "Return of the Champions" Oct. 16 in the Cajundome. In the tradition of a MMA or WWE Smackdown preview, Spears also ratcheted up the trash talk, issuing this downright bloodthirsty memo to Vitter, according to The Advertiser: "You and other career politicians like yourself, hell-bent on ruining this nation, have blood on your hands," Spears said. "I think it's time you have blood on your face."
Spears billed the fight as a "modern day duel," representative of the struggle between the average American and out-of-touch Washington insiders. "According to The Art of Manliness," he said, "duels were an essential part of the political landscape in early America. Refusing a challenge to duel would effectively end a man's political career. Senator Vitter," he continued, "meet me in the cage and together we will engage in a modern day duel, mano a mano. After three rounds you'll understand how the American people feel. And how America's small business owners feel."
In questioning, Spears admitted his challenge is a publicity stunt designed to help his small budget Senate campaign attract some media coverage. On YouTube, you can watch the entire press conference, as well as two other promotional videos that are part of a documentary, titled "Freedom Fighter," being shot about Spears' MMA challenge to Vitter.
