The Greater Lafayette Chamber of Commerce's political action committee, EMPOWER PAC, announced its endorsements in the Oct. 2 election for seats on the Lafayette Parish School Board, inexplicably endorsing competing candidates in two of five competitive districts. A sixth competitive district, 5, has three candidates vying for the seat; EMPOWER PAC says it will consider an endorsement in that race in the event of a runoff.

EMPOWER PAC endorsed Greg Davis in District 2, Tehmi Chassion in District 4, Greg Awbrey (incumbent) and Dudley LaBauve III in District 6, Tom Brown in District 7 and both Hunter Beasley and Arlecia Hill in District 8.

Formed a little more than a month ago, the PAC is making its first foray into politics with these school board endorsements. The group cites "serious facility needs, a declining state achievement ranking and an increasing high school dropout rate" as pressing issues for the incoming board.
