Still more than five weeks from the commencement of deliberations, the Lafayette Charter Commission gets another primer in consolidated government operations Monday evening when it hears from the heads of public-safety departments under the LCG umbrella.

Commissioners are scheduled to get presentations from Fire Chief Robert Benoit, Police Chief Jim Craft, City Marshal Nicky Picard, Bill Vincent of the Office of Homeland Security and Mike Mouton of Emergency Operations. The public will also have an opportunity to address the commission on topics pertaining to those agencies.

The commission is scheduled to begin deliberations on Nov. 1; it must complete its work and make recommendations about the Lafayette Home Rule Charter next spring. Those recommendations will go directly to voters in a fall 2011 referendum.

The commission meets at 5:30 p.m. Monday in the City-Parish Council auditorium.
