Candidates in the Oct. 2 election to fill an unexpired term and a full term on 3rd Circuit Court of Appeal will gather on the UL campus Tuesday night for debate. Attorneys Buzz Durio and Jeanne Laborde as well as City Court Judge Francie Bouillion have confirmed they will attend the event. District Judge Phyllis Montgomery Keaty, citing a full docket in Vermilion Parish, has not committed to the debate.

Keaty is the presumed frontrunner in the race to replace the late Mike Sullivan on the 12-member 3rd Circuit. Each of the candidates is a Republican. The subdistrict in which the candidates are competing comprises roughly 85,000 voters in western Lafayette Parish.

The debate will be held at 7 p.m. in room 241 at Burke Hall. The candidates will be questioned by a panel of journalists - Daily Advertiser Managing Editor Kristen Askelson, KATC anchor Marcelle Fontenot, KLFY anchor Darla Montgomery and Independent Weekly Managing Editor Walter Pierce. The debate is sponsored by the UL chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists.

The debate will be taped by Acadiana Open Channel for broadcast at a later date.
