Golfballs.com chief executive Tom Cox is joining the board of directors for Louisiana Immersive Technologies Enterprise. Cox is filling a new vacancy created by the departure of former Lafayette Chief Information Officer Keith Thibodeaux, who offered his resignation last week. (Thibodeaux was appointed to the board by the Lafayette Economic Development Authority.) Cox will now fill out the remainder of Thibodeaux's term, which runs through next August.

Cox is already involved with LITE, serving on the steering committee for its new tech business incubator. "Tom Cox exemplifies the tech savvy entrepreneur we want to see prosper here in Lafayette," says Lafayette Economic Development Authority President Gregg Gothreaux. "His service on the LITE Commission is consistent with that goal and our goals at LEDA." Cox will have to hit the ground running, as the board has just called a special meeting for Wednesday to begin the process of searching for a replacement for departing CEO Henry Florsheim.

Thibodeaux, who was on the LITE board since its inception, quit the board several days after being fired from his position as LCG CIO. City Parish President Joey Durel terminated Thibodeaux following revelations of Thibodeaux's involvement in alleged kickback schemes orchestrated by Belle Chase tech vendor Mark St. Pierre, his company NetMethods, and former New Orleans Chief Technology Officer Greg Meffert. Federal prosecutors have revealed that Thibodeaux's wife, Celeste, took a lucrative consulting gig with Meffert in New Orleans around the same time her husband began steering no-bid LCG contracts to NetMethods. Neither Thibodeaux has been charged with any crime.
