Book it: Saturday festival celebrates local authors

The festival is free and open to the public and sponsored by the Writers' Guild of Acadiana. About 45 authors are scheduled to attend the Acadiana Book Festival from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 30, at Cité des Arts, 109 Vine St. in downtown Lafayette. Poet Laureate Darrell Bourque will speak along with poet Ava Leavell Haymon, plus there be will presentations by mystery authors, novelists, cookbook creators and children's book authors. Christee Gabour Atwood, a motivational speaker, radio personality and author, will present a one-woman show in connection with her book release, In Celebration of Elastic Waistbands. In addition, most of the children's book authors participating in the festival will read their books in a storytime setting at the Children's Museum of Acadiana at 201 E. Congress St., also in downtown Lafayette.

After each panel, authors will be available to sign copies of their books, making this a perfect opportunity for early holiday shopping. Barnes & Noble will be on hand selling books.
