After a spate of awards at independent and science-fiction film festivals in the United States and abroad, Lunopolis returns to its spawning ground for a free showing Saturday at Cité des Arts.
After a spate of awards at independent and science-fiction film festivals in the United States and abroad, Lunopolis returns to its spawning ground for a free showing Saturday at Cité des Arts as part of the Acadiana Film Festival.
Directed by Lafayette filmmaker Matthew Avant, who also stars in the film along with co-producer Sonny Maynor, Lunopolis is an action-packed movie that follows two intrepid investigators who stumble upon a disturbing truth: Humans from the future live on the moon and are in control of earthly events, and they want to keep it a secret.
Most recently, the film garnered Avant a "Best Director" award at the Fantastic Planet Film Festival in Sydney, Australia.
"It's very humbling but pretty darn exciting to win something like this, especially overseas where I don't know anyone at all," says Avant. "We've screened at about a dozen festivals all over the country this year and the response has been truly outstanding everywhere we go. New opportunities open up each day and altogether it has made 2010 a very memorable year. I'm pretty excited about where we're going in the future."
Lunopolis will also be screened in December at the Big Easy Film Festival in New Orleans. The movie was filmed in Acadiana using local actors. It debuted in the fall of 2009 and has travelled far since.
The screening at Cité des Arts will begin at 10:50 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 13.
