Family-friendly rock fest on tap

by Dege Legg

Surgefest hits the Cajundome parking lot this weekend.

Another day, another festival. "Every citizen, a festival," the Louisiana license plate should read. Here comes Surgefest, a Christian rock fest, mini-palooza of sorts, featuring live bands, an Untitled Skateboarders demo on skate ramps, giveaways, fire- and sheriff's department demos, a ZooZoom exotic petting zoo, drop location for Toys for Tots and FoodNet, fun jumps, a rock wall and bungee action.

The bands in the line-up include Nathan Sam Band, SoulFruit, Bread of Stone, Viktory, Group 1 Crew, KJ52, Seventh Day Slumber, Superchick, Jeremy Camp and more. Surgefest will also a drop location for Toys for Tots and for FoodNet.

"Our goal is simply to create opportunity for the community to connect with the surge that we believe is taking place among families and teenagers alike that are having a positive impact on our culture," says Danny Dardeau, Surgefest coordinator. "We are partnering with the community to really bring hope to families in need, especially going into the Christmas season. So along with inviting a friend, who may need encouragement, be sure to bring your non-perishable food items and a toy donation." Surgefest takes plays 9 a.m. 9 p.m. on Dec. 4 at the Cajun Field parking lot.
