LUS Fiber has completed its citywide buildout and is now available to almost all businesses and residents in the city. LUS Director Terry Huval estimates LUS Fiber can now serve some 45,000 residences and businesses in the city limits of Lafayette. The two exceptions remain some apartment complexes and multi-tenant offices. Apartment complexes often already have exclusive agreements with other providers. Large office buildings can require more detailed wiring and Huval says thus far LUS has concentrated on hooking up those where it has a high number of tenants requesting service.

Huval says the buildout along every public street was completed in November, meeting LUS Fiber's original deadline for the project. At the start of this year, LUS moved its expected completion time up to July, but then encountered delays when it discovered some contractors were not laying fiber wire in the appropriate right of way. The business is now moving ahead with a more aggressive advertising campaign. A TV commercial is scheduled to hit the airwaves after the start of the new year, along with other planned promotions. Huval adds that LUS Fiber's Refer a Friend program, recently touted by Lafayette Consolidated Government's Chief Administrative Officer Dee Stanley in robocalls that went out to fiber customers over the holidays, proved effective.  "There's no doubt that program was a success," he says. "Everything's moving well and customer interest is really showing some strong signs."
