In news that has already been picked up by the D.C. newspaper Politico (with the blog headline Buddy Roemer?!), John Maginnis reports that former Louisiana Governor Buddy Roemer is looking to get back into politics. Roemer isn't planning any small comeback, mind you, rather he's got his sights set on being the next Presidnet of the United States.

"It certainly interests me. There is a lot of work to be done," Roemer tells Maginnis. "I am not running today. It will take months to work out if it happens. I don't want to scare anyone."

Roemer has been out of politics since serving one term as governor, then failing to make the runoff in his 1991 re-election bid. He has since gone on to found and run Business First Bank in Baton Rouge. Maginnis relays that Roemer sees a serious problem with "professional corruption in politics" and a need to "remove the Goldman Sachs yoke around the president." He is yet to be inspired by any of the current crop of likely Republican presidential contenders.  "I am saying I have an interest in somebody doing it my way," he said. "It begins with money and ends with results."

Asked how he would fund such a venture, Roemer replies, "I can't talk to you about that until I figure it out. I will be looking to see if it's possible."
