The state Department of Wildlife and Fisheries announced Thursday that the body of 39-year-old Mitch Jackson was recovered in the Vermilion River mid-morning.

A DWF press release says the Rayne resident's body was found behind a residence located on the 200 block of Farmington Road. That's about 200 feet down river from the waste water treatment plant on Ambassador Caffery near the river bridge and roughly a half mile away from where Jackson was last spotted on surveillance cameras in a shop near the Home Depot where he parked his truck following a five-car wreck in which he was involved. Police said earlier that Mitchell drove away from the wreck, parked his truck and wandered away to a nearby shopping center. Apparently disoriented following the wreck, he left his cell phone and high blood pressure medication in his vehicle.

No word yet on a cause of death.
