A pardon request by former Iberia Parish President Will Langlinais, who resigned in disgrace four years ago following a no-contest plea to felony malfeasance charges, was unanimously denied Monday by the state Board of Pardons, according to the Associated Press.

The AP writes that Langlinais, once an avid outdoorsman, maintained his innocence and asked for a full restoration of his rights including the right to use firearms, telling the board he pleaded no contest because he didn't have enough money to fight the case against him. The 65 year old was accused in 2007 of using parish funds and infrastructure materials for private purposes as well as compelling parish employees to help him raise campaign cash. He agreed to pay $100,000 in restitution and served six months of home confinement for the felony conviction, which bars him from voting, owning guns and enjoying other civil privileges.
