The Walk-On's on Kaliste Saloom Road will have a new neighbor, Pizza Village, hopefully by the first of the year.

The north Lafayette based restaurant, which many contend serves the best pizza in town, plans to begin construction within a month. The restaurant will offer the same menu and ambiance of the existing location, which has been in business for four decades, with one major exception: "We're going to have a full bar," says Michael Trahan, one of the eatery's managers who assume management of the new store. General Manager Kirk Trahan (no relation) will remain on Moss Street.

Al fresco seating will accommodate about 20, Michael says, with inside seating for about 260. It's a larger operation than Moss Street.

Pizza Village's biggest sellers are the Dupe Special - pepperoni, hamburger and shrimp with an extra layer of crispy pepperoni on top - and the Landry Special, pepperoni, hamburger, shrimp, onion and jalapeno. Its ham salad - lettuce, ham, cheese, and green and black olives with house-made Italian dressing - is killer, as its shrimp salad - no ham, add mushrooms.

Owned by Glenn Landry and Buddy Tarpley, Pizza Village eight years ago built a new store at 1935 Moss St. to replace its location just across the street.
