Downtown is alive with the sounds of Howdies

Bust out your dancing shoes and gird your loins, The Howdies are playing for tonight's Downtown Alive! at Parc San Souci in downtown Lafayette.

The Howdies are a local foursome who are hard to describe - Americana roots music played with a punk attitude is the best bet. Sort of like if Hank Williams got into a bar fight inside CBGBs in the 1970s. The band is comprised of Austin Keller on percussion and various noisemakers, Stu Keller on harmonica, Julian Primeaux on guitar and Christopher Slim on upright bass. Everybody sings and everybody is boisterous; it's music you can dance or drink to as your pleasure takes you. The Howdies'  first album, Made With Pure Lightning, was released in 2009 and will be on sale tonight.

Downtown Alive! is sponsored by Lafayette's Downtown Development Authority and has been happening for 27 years. It's always a free show. Help keep it alive by buying drinks at the event. It's asked that you leave your coolers and various four-legged friends at home. Everyone is welcome to bring a blanket or chair. It's a smoke-free event as well as one of tonight's sponsors is Let's Be Totally Clear, so bear that in mind. San Souci is located right next to a parking tower for easy access.
