A virtual arc of Louisiana wildlife is being displaced in the wake of the Morganza Spillway's opening on Saturday. Residents living along and near the Atchafalaya Basin should expect an increased frequency in wildlife encounters - black bear, deer, bobcats, alligators, snakes, etc. - as floodwaters from the Morganza Spillway, which was opened Saturday, make their way south toward the Gulf of Mexico. The high water is expected to reach Acadiana later this week.

Baton Rouge television station WBRZ posted video of deer fleeing the floodwater following the opening of the spillway. See it here.
