There is a joke from "Airplane!" in here

by Anna Purdy

All good things must come to an end, folks. The spring season of Downtown Alive! is such a casualty.
Friday, June 3 marks the last Downtown Alive! until the fall when it returns with gusto. If you are wondering why this outdoor concert series doesn't happen all year round, you must never have lived through a Louisiana summer - good luck, we're all counting on you.

Anyway, tomorrow is a nice farewell with Yvette Landry taking the stage. Landry is a bassist-singer-songwriter and took the center stage a few years back and has made a big name for herself in a relatively short time. With comparisons to Wanda Jackson, Patsy Cline and Emmylou Harris, the praises for Landry range from Obie Obermark of 3rd Coast Music saying "Yvette Landry is the most charismatic performer I've seen not named Willie Nelson," to Bill Frater of FreightTrainBoogie.com saying, "Who would've thought that the best honky tonk album of the year is by a woman that would be from the middle from Breaux Bridge, LA?" No offense to Bill, but we in Acadiana probably would have. But we're lucky that way. Landry has been supporting her debut album, Should Have Known, by touring nationally and internationally. It will be on sale Friday at the show.

Landry takes the stage around 6 p.m. Bring a chair or a blanket to sit on and maybe a hand fan. Downtown Alive! is billed as "family friendly" so bring the kids and dance your tuckus off. This performance is at Parc San Souci with its blessedly cold fountain, so maybe don't wear white to tomorrow's show if you plan on gettin' fountain frisky.
