Healing House helps with martinis

by Anna Purdy

Martinis for grieving children? Not exactly...

If you like to drink and you want to find a reason to justify it, boy, have we got a solution for you. Healing House is throwing a martini contest and wants you to throw some down.

Every Tuesday for two months, starting on June 28, patrons will be able to order and vote on their favorite martinis at one of eight locations. It is being called Tini Tuesday. Every week you can print off a ticket from the Healing House site that allows you to get one free martini with the purchase of an entree. Afterward, you can pay $1 per vote to vote for that martini. Participants can vote as many times as they wish.

The restaurant with the most "votes" at the end of the tour and at the final event on Aug. 20 will be crowned Lafayette's Absolut Best Martini for 2011. The schedule is:

June 28: Bonefish Grill
July 5: Zea
July 12: Blue Dog
July 19: Charley G's
July 26: Walk-Ons
August 2: Jolie's Louisiana Bistro
August 9: Tsunami
August 16: Pamplona

It's important to note that all proceeds from this event, from the voting costs to the tickets at the dinner and the silent auction, will go directly to the Healing House to aid in helping grieving children in the Acadiana area. Many children need your help after losing loved ones and are in need of therapy, help with school or simply the support to play with other children who can empathize with them. Healing House allows these kids to have a voice and a safe place to work through their pain.

Aug. 20 is the final vote at The Hilton with all restaurants in attendance. Tickets are $75 with again all proceeds going to charity. Attendees get a souvenir hand-painted collectible martini glass painted by local artist Erin Chance Fenstermaker, unlimited martini tastings, dinner, a silent auction and the 5th Avenue Band performing. In addition, discounted room rates are available that night for those attending the dinner.

To purchase a ticket for Aug. 20, to book a hotel room for that event's night or simply for more information on how to help these kids, go to the Healing House site here or call directly at 234-0443.
