McGee's gets national print, broadcast props

One of Cajun Country's most precious and marketable resources, the Atchafalaya Basin, is in the national spotlight this week.

One of Cajun Country's most precious and marketable resources, the Atchafalaya Basin, received some national accolades this week in Southern Traveler magazine and in a feature on NBC's The Today Show.

McGee's Atchafalaya Basin Swamp Tours was picked as the best swamp tour in a reader poll-generated feature about the best Southern cities and attractions. New Orleans was a big winner here, too, taking top honors for "Best Large City for Weekend," "Best Guy's Weekend," "Best Girls' Getaway," "Best Art Museum" (NOMA) and "Best Fine Dining" (Commander's Palace).

David Alleman, owner of McGee's Landing in Henderson and proprietor of the aforementioned swamp tour company, also features prominently in the series "America the Beautiful" that aired Wednesday morning on NBC.

The feature spotlights national parks and heritage areas in the U.S. NBC sent "correspondent" Jenna Bush Hagar, daughter of "W," to the Atchafalaya Basin for a taste of Cajun culture, including an air boat tour with Alleman.

Hagar badly mangles the pronunciation of Atchafalaya throughout package, but we'll forgive. The publicity can't hurt.
