Roemer, barely a blip, to appear on ‘Colbert Report'

Former Louisiana Gov. Buddy Roemer, who is hardly registering a pulse in the race for the Republican presidential nomination, could get a boost when he appears Thursday on the hit Comedy Central program The Colbert Report. For the uninitiated, TCR is a spin-off of Jon Stewart's The Daily Show on the same network. Comedian/host Stephen Colbert plays a faux right wing conservative talk show host, so the caveat for Roemer is that Colbert's audience is mostly, well, not conservative.

According to an article in today's Advertiser, Roemer is Colbert's preferred candidate - by default: Pizza magnate Herman Cain, for a second time, cancelled an appearance on Colbert's show scheduled for Thursday.

Roemer's appearance on TCR comes on the heels of a new IBOPE/Zogby poll of likely GOP voters showing that fewer than 1 percent of those polled prefer him as the nominee. U.S. Rep. Michelle Bachmann leads the field, although pollster John Zogby says if Texas Gov. Rick Perry were to join the race he would lead the pack, while former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney is still viewed as the candidate most likely to win the nomination.
