According Bayou Teche Brewing, alt-schwarzbier is a manner of brewing beer that was popular in East Germany for many years but stopped about 20 years ago. Because it was an East German method, its techniques did not reach other parts of Europe readily. Bayou Teche has brought it back, using German malts and an ale yeast for its starter and American hops paired to mimic a dry French roast. They recommend you drink LA-31 Biere Noire with grilled food especially. If you like a dark beer it would probably be good with anything.
