Noise Maker: Glenn Stewart

Developer and former cancer physician Glenn Stewart is shaking up the world of high-end retail in a very big way. Developer and former cancer physician Glenn Stewart is shaking up the world of high-end retail in a very big way. When The Daily Advertiser revealed in a Sept. 21 report that the 16,500-square-foot women's department store, La MarQuiche - the future anchor of Stewart's swanky Parched Lafayette development - will donate 100 percent of its profits to charities that focus on education and opportunities for "the most beautiful women in the world," a great cheer arose in the Hub City. The dearth of opportunities for beautiful women in Lafayette has been a blight on our city. La MarQuiche will be governed by a 12-member board of directoresses comprising some of Lafayette's most civically engaged women.

We scoured the vast expanses of the Googles in search of a philanthropic business model even remotely akin to Stewart's big-hearted gesture and can find only one: Goodwill. But based on our experience with Mr. Stewart - his never-say-quit attitude, his dogged determination against all odds, his keen sense of how deeply this community embraces him - we can predict with a high degree of certainty that Goodwill will be no match for the good doctor, who has also been a one-man boon to the outdoor advertising industry in Lafayette for the last few months. Glenn Stewart - makin' some noise for the girls, not the boys.
