Ethics Board clears Latiolais

by Walter Pierce

District 5 hopeful Britt Latiolais requested an opinion from the board because his employer has a contract with Lafayette Consolidated Government.

Britt Latiolais, the challenger against incumbent District 5 Councilman Jared Bellard, has been cleared by the Louisiana Ethics Board to keep his full-time job at commercial uniform company Cintas in the event he wins the Oct. 22 election. Latiolais requested an opinion from the board last month because Cintas has a contract with Lafayette Consolidated Government. The board, however, warned Latiolais that he would be prohibited as a Cintas employee from overseeing that LCG contract, and that he would have to recuse himself from any council votes or discussion related to his employer.

In related action, the board similarly gave Holly Boffey, a Youngsville resident and candidate for the District 7 seat on the state Board of Elementary and Secondary Education, the all-clear to keep her full-time job with the Association of Professional Educators of Louisiana if she wins on Oct. 22, placing the same restrictions on her elected office as those imposed on Latiolais.
