Jazz great John Pizzarelli teaches and performs Oct. 14 at Acadiana Center for the Arts.
Pizzarelli is part of the great jazz revival that is administering CPR to the songbooks of greats like Gershwin and Goodman. His father is Bucky Pizzarelli, another great jazz performer with whom his son regularly performs.
In his career Pizzarelli has appeared on Broadway, played with Frank Sinatra, reimagined the songs of Lennon & McCartney with a modern jazz feel, hosted a New York City-based radio show and appeared on numerous late-night and daytime national television shows. His jazz is modern and accessible but true to its roots, adding at times Latin and bossa nova elements.
From 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Pizzarelli is honoring select UL music students with a special master class. The public is welcome to audit.
The main show, John Pizzarelli Quartet, starts at 8 p.m. Students get a special ticket price of $18 with the public's tickets ranging from $36-$55. You can also reserve whole tables for special prices.
