Shop online and a portion of your dollars is donated to Louisiana-based nonprofit agencies, thanks to Louisiana Community Marketplace. This month Lafayette nonprofit Hearts of Hope is benefitting.
Louisiana Community Marketplace is a collective generated and based out of Baton Rouge. Launched in August of this year, "the purpose of LCM is to raise funds for Louisiana nonprofit organizations, schools and churches. Every purchase made through LCM directly benefits our sponsoring nonprofit organizations through the payment of commissions by participating online stores," says its site. The percentage a nonprofit receives from sales varies from 3 percent to as high as 50 percent in some cases.
All nonprofits have been vetted as being located in Louisiana, so your donation stays at home. All the stores signed up have been prescreened to ensure they have safety measures in place and its sales are encrypted.
So what kind of stores can you shop in? You can choose to shop in Louisiana-based stores or go by store name. Sears, Kmart, Spiegal, Barnes & Noble, Groupon daily deal, Target, Best Buy and hundreds of others are there to choose from. Hearts of Hope is, according to its website is, "an agency whose aim is to reduce the trauma experienced by child and adult victims of sexual abuse and sexual assault. All services are confidential and are completed without expense for the clients. Located in Lafayette, Hearts of Hope provides its services to the parishes of Lafayette, Acadia, Vermilion, Iberia, St. Martin, St. Mary, St. Landry and Evangeline." Hearts of Hope used to be known as Stuller Place."
To be clear, the prices are not raised. The nonprofits, by spreading the word, act as the shop's marketing and as such the nonprofit gets a percentage.
