Louisiana Plating and Coatings, a newly formed subsidiary of Houston Plating and Coatings, is building a $9 million oil and gas manufacturing facility in Scott slated to open later this year. Gov. Bobby Jindal, joined by Houston Plating and Coatings CEO Bill Howard and a slew of other local and state officials, announced the new venture Thursday afternoon at Scott City Hall. Scott Mayor Purvis Morrison said the city, thanks to the help of LEDA and state economic development officials, was able to provide more than $1 million in infrastructure for the project going up at 6325 Cameron St. The 80,000-square-foot facility will create 120 new jobs and have an annual payroll of $3 million. If the positions paid equally, and we know they won't, that comes to $25,000 per job - not great but better than nothing we suppose.

For 9ers fans. Unfortunately for Saints faithful, it also marks one of the greatest chokes in the history of a franchise long acquainted with the Heimlich Maneuver. The Black & Gold committed five turnovers - two by special teams deep in Saints territory plus a pair of interceptions by quarterback Drew Brees and a fumble by running back Pierre Thomas - and, in a stirring final four minutes that averaged a lead change per minute, the Saints middling defense gave up long drives that ended in one of the most gut-wrenching defeats ever. Boo dat.

If you've ever seen the website People of Walmart, you know pajamas are perfectly acceptable attire for shopping at the mega-chain. Shreveport politician Michael Williams didn't get the memo. The Caddo Parish Commissioner is pushing an ordinance that would prohibit people from wearing pajama pants in public, citing an "indecent" (our word, not his) incident in a local Walmart in which Williams claims to have made unfortunate visual acquaintance with the loins of a young man who was wearing pajama pants sans underwear. We'll leave it to Williams and his fellow commissioners to define what constitutes pajamas and from what public places they should be banned. Shreveport, as many of you know, already has an anti-sagging (pants, not body parts) law. Perhaps Williams et al will find a way to make the ordinance comprehensive: no saggy pants, no PJs, and - by all means - no saggy PJs.
