U.S. Rep. Charles Boustany, R-Lafayette, is reporting healthy 4th Quarter 2011 fundraising, announcing Thursday his campaign took in more than $220,000 from October to December, raising his total cash on hand for the 2012 campaign to $1.27 million. No fundraising numbers for the same period have been released so far by Boustany's presumed opponent, freshman Congressman Jeff Landry, R-New Iberia. Landry has been urged to challenge Boustany in November by a number of conservative groups, although he has yet to announce his intentions.

"I am proud of these numbers. This total puts the campaign in a position to fiercely compete against any potential candidates," Boustany says in a press release touting the latest figures. "I am focused on running a well-executed reelection campaign in 2012 and have received a warm response and welcome from the citizens of South Louisiana."

A retired surgeon, Boustany is in his fourth term in the Congress.
