Lawmakers have begun pre-filing legislation ahead of the March 12 commencement of the legislative session, and state Sen. Elbert Guillory, D-Opelousas, is leading the pack with 10 of the 13 bills filed on the Senate side of the chamber. Gov. Bobby Jindal announced on Wednesday his plan to address the state's more than $18 billion in unfunded liabilities via state employee retirement.
All told as of 8 a.m. Thursday, as The Political Desk reports, 18 bills had been filed on the House side in addition to the baker's dozen in the Senate. The frequency of filings will likely increase as the session nears.
