The League of Women Voters of Lafayette will take a look at the Hub City's near future "Envisioning Lafayette in Five Years: Be Concrete!" on March 14.

The event is set for noon at the Acadiana Open Channel Community Media offices in the Rosa Parks Transportation Center, 101 Jefferson St.

The panelĀ  includes Dr. Paula Carson, University of Louisiana at Lafayette assistant vice president for institutinal planning and effectiveness; Bruce Conque, vice president of marketing and governmental relations for the Greater Lafayette Chamber of Commerce; Dr. Pat Cooper, superintendent of Lafayette Parish School System; and City-Parish President Joey Durel.

Although it's not an official event of the Lafayette Consolidated Government's upcoming Community Forum Series on the new master plan for Lafayette, Carlee Alm-Labar, assistant to Durel, says the more input, and give-and-take on the plan the better for all concerned.

"I think we can expect over the next 18 months that Mr. Durel will talk about the plan," Alm-Labar says, adding that the LCG forums are set to begin in April.

Durel discussed the plan at his annual State of the Parish address at the kick-off event of The Independent's 2012 Lecture Series on Feb. 15. Go here for the address.
