Get animated at AOC

by Dominick Cross

The class is an introduction to the different types animation in the industry today. Students can learn the origins of animation and how the history of animation changed the way we see and approach moving images.

You've got to start somewhere, and if by chance the fact that the Oscar for Best Animated Short Film went to a couple of Louisianans gave you the envie to get into the business, look no further than AOC Community Media.

Not only that, the learning process begins in a week with the class, Animation Booth: Basics.

Just this past Sunday night, Shreveport's William Joyce and Brandon Oldenburg, of Moonbot Studios, were awarded the Oscar for The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore.

So, can the AOC class launch a career that can lead you to the red carpet and an Oscar?

"Definitely yes," says an enthusiastic Joe Ferguson,  the instructor of the class for anyone who has an interest in learning the art and craft of animation.

Ferguson said AOC is offering the class "just to be able to create a new venue to be more creative" in their programs.

The class is an introduction to the different types animation in the industry today. Students can learn the origins of animation and how the history of animation changed the way we see and approach moving images.

"You'll get a better understanding of the root of animation and the structure of how things can be built on top of that structure," Ferguson says. "You'll get a roundabout knowledge of animation, its roots and the theory behind the idea of animation"

Finally, students will learn how to set up AOC's animation booth to capture your animations.

Interested persons must signup 24 hours before the class begins. Cost is $25 forAOC members; $40 for non-members. The class will be held at AOC Community Media in the Rosa Parks Transportation Center, 101 Jefferson St., Suite 100, downtown Lafayette.
