The Loyal Treatment

The "room full of angels" taught by Ernest Gallet Elementary School second grade teacher Terry Bethea are the muses behind a recently published children's book, Why Snails Are Slow, Bethea's inspiring short story of how two snails journeyed through weeks of hardship to find a red-carpet reception onto Noah's Ark.
Bethea, a former teacher of the year and veteran educator of 37 years who has taught for 19 years in Lafayette Parish, says the book is the first in a planned series of children's stories titled "The Ark."
Illustrated by Jesse Blythe DeFriese, the birds, elephants, rhinos and other "faster" creatures encountered by the snails along their route repeatedly remind readers that even the slowest of snails are "important to God's plans," a fitting metaphor that reassures children on why they should "never give up."
Why Snails Are Slow is available for purchase on Bethea's website, www.thearkseries.com. $10 for paperback, $15 for hard cover. - Heather Miller
